Don’t Sample Me!
A new site has come to my attention and it’s playfully titled DontSample.me. It has a rather lengthy list of bands, groups and artists that have had DMCA take down notices issued for their music.
“This is the best list (to my knowledge) of all of the artists associated with big music labels that are issuing take down notices across the internet.” – DontSample.me
Now, I think it is a great start and idea to keep tabs on which music to steer clear from whilst making your latest mash-up, blend, remix or what ever. BUT, I wanted to be one of the first to tell people to slow their roll when it comes to the names on the list. Remember, for the most part, Dave Matthews Band does’t care about your trap remix of Crash into me!
It is pretty much the Big (evil) 3 record distributors that cause all the problems; Universal, Sony & Warner. If you pull up their wikipedia artist listings it will surely take up most of the list from DontSample.me.

So, be careful kiddies. With how much power those companies have it’s only a matter of time before they start throwing people in jail by the handfuls for unlicensed use of their material. In fact, my next article should be an in depth look at who owns all the private prisons in the US!! HAHA… Jokes, guys.. But, seriously, be careful.
